New curated initiative streamlines orientation to create personalised experience for students

It’s Go Time! Welcome to a new look orientation from the Ƶ (Ƶ).

This week (Wednesday 18 January), Ƶ will kick off its multi-faceted, reimagined orientation with It’s Go Time, a curated, week-by-week guide for new and returning students.

Aimed at students across all Ƶ campuses, It’s Go Time brings together everything a student needs to start the university year, including enrolment and administration, campus and student living, building new friendships, and the good vibes of orientation parties.

It’s Go Time is the umbrella for nine new initiatives, each with a specific focus, that will be rolled out week by week during the first semester: Let’s Go Get Started; Let’s Go Party; Let’s Go Live; Let’s Go Respect; Let’s Go Belong; Let’s Go Connect; Let’s Go Succeed; Let’s Go Forward; and Let’s Go Thrive.

Inclusion and diversity are at the heart of It’s Go Time, with all initiatives developed to create an environment where students from all backgrounds can feel safe, empowered and celebrated in their university experience. Let’s Go Respect will focus on activities that address issues such as cultural respect, sexual harassment and assault, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Professor Theo Farrell, Ƶ’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Life), said It’s Go Time would provide students with the best information and the best tools to start their university year on the right foot.

“Students are often bombarded with a lot of information from many different sources when they start, or continue, their studies. We also know that not all that information applies to every student, that each student will have their own unique journey at university based on their needs and goals.”

“It’s Go Time will cut through the noise and bring together everything that a student should know and experience as they begin the academic year. This is not just about enrolment and subject information, but also the right support services, initiatives to help them unwind, and the fun events that have always defined Orientation Week.

“It has been developed with students, for students. It’s Go Time is for Ƶ staff too, because we are here for our students every step of the way.”

Ƶ has traditionally held a week of orientation activities, known as O-Week, open to all students, but It’s Go Time will go beyond, with a curated program over a number of weeks that will enable students to choose what matters to them.

It’s Go Time will begin this week with Get Started at Wollongong Campus, a day for students to enrol in their studies, get advice from faculties and find out more about their subjects. Get Started Drop-In Advice Sessions are also being held for the next three weeks, from Monday 16 January to Friday 3 February, at UOW’s Regional and Metro Campuses.
