Education professionals gear for 2014 Summer Institute

Hot topics in education practice and theory - including curriculum change, language, autism spectrum disorder, assessment and teaching English overseas are being examined at the 2014 Summer Institute from 14–17 January.

Hosted by รรอลสำฦต’s School of Education, the Summer Institute has attracted more than 80 participants from around Australia taking part in the lectures and workshops led by international and Australian experts.

They include Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) spokesperson Ms Lyndall Foster, (Senior Manager and currently Acting General Manager, Curriculum), who will deliver the keynote address providing an insight into curriculum change and professional learning.

Participants of the Summer Institute will undertake intensive workshops over four days. The theme areas include:

    • Student Assessment: Assessment in Schools

    • Certificate of Special Education; Autism Spectrum Disorders

    • Teaching English Overseas

    • Knowledge about Language

    • Assessing Higher Order Thinking

The Summer Institute is a professional development opportunity for those at the teaching coalface, according to the 2014 Summer Institute Convenor and Senior Lecturer at UOW’s School of Education, Dr Pauline Jones.

“Our participants are educators, industry leaders and policymakers, and postgraduate students. They are all interested in focusing their understanding and professional practice through the intensive workshops, as well as learning from our keynote speakers and each other’s experience,” Dr Jones said.
